Chiang Mai Frangipani

Many guests have remarked that our location in the old city could hardly be better, tucked away in a tranquil leafy lane, with very little through traffic, well away from noisy highways. Our apartments are an easy stroll from many shops, cafes, restaurants, local markets, a post office, the Thai Airways downtown office, the Chiang Mai City Art and Cultural Centre, the Three Kings Monument and the "Sunday Walking Street" as well as some of the city's loveliest temples.

The oldest temple - Wat Chiang Mun, dating back to the birth of the city in 1296 - is literally on our doorstep. We overlook its impressive golden pagoda, which is just a few metres away from our front door.

This, therefore, is the "real" Chiang Mai, where you step out from your modern residence into an area of Thailand’s history seven centuries old. If you are feeling energetic, you can in fact walk anywhere within this old city, which is enclosed in an almost perfect square, each side measuring approximately 1.5 kilometres, and protected by a moat. A bicycle is an even better idea, and you can spend many enjoyable hours here exploring small lanes and hidden corners, rarely seen by tourists.

Our location has many other advantages. Within a radius of two to four kilometres, or a short taxi ride, you reach the local markets and shops of Chang Phuak to the north; the huge Airport Shopping Plaza to the south; the Ping River and Night Bazaar area to the east, Chiang Mai University, and the prime shopping areas of Huay Kaew and Nimmanhaemin roads to the west. On top of this, and in case of need, one of the city's best-equipped private hospitals is located close by. It provides a wide range of services from simple checkups to advanced medical and surgical procedures.
